Éditions du Breil Waterways Guides for the Canals of France
French Canals Index Map (in full color)

Here's a testamonial from a long time user of ÉDB Waterways Guides:
"Thanks for the prompt delivery of the guide books; we
received them yesterday. We mailed your check also.
Over the past 14 years we have been cruising the French canals every
year; now that I am retired, we have spent longer periods over there [France].
Next summer we are planning to cruise the Canal du Marne area, near
Strasbourg. We rent boats from Locaboat; they have great boats and excellent
service. We have covered almost all of the French canals.
If you ever need info re cruising there, feel free to contact us.
The chart books from duBriel are excellent and very easy to use.
I grew up in Great Barrington, Mass, so I am familiar with the New York
area also; one summer we may try the Erie Canal.
Regards,"
M. & G. S., Rio Piedras, PR, September, 2007.
"Got reading the Canal du Midi guide last night and someone did a
great job of organizing the information! [John Riddel, the author.]
J. S., Bellingham, WA, 2007.
Harvey met John Riddel author and publisher of a series of very special
tour guides for bicycling along or cruising on the extensive system of canals in
France. John writes and publishes these guides through his company, Éditions du
Breil.
These multi-lingual guide books have text in English, French and
German.
The maps are drawn via a unique program configured by Mr. Riddel
himself. Roads, major and minor, are clearly indicated on the accurately drawn maps. Bike
routes and trails are distinctly shown on the maps and described in the text.
Attractions, information sources, lodging and some restaurants are also
described in the municipal listings.
If you are not certain about which book you should order send us an
email and we'll search all the Waterways Guides for the municipalities where you intend to
travel.
The 2003 and later editions of EDB Waterway Guide No. 7 no longer
includes the Aquitaine municipality of Bordeaux. Aquitaine and Bordeaux is now in EDB
Waterway Guide No. 12: Aquitaine.
Éditions du Breil Waterways Guides make wonderful coffee table
books for bicyclists and bargers. The cyclist and boater can plan a tour using the
Éditions du Breil Waterways Guides.
In 2004, Éditions du Breil in conjuction with Association pour
l'aménagement de la vallée du Lot published Guide découverte Randonnée nautique:
Lot et Célé. This is a wonderful complete canoe and kayak guide to the Lot
River/Canal and Célé River system. Unlike the ÉDB Waterways Guides it is
written and available only in French. Fear not, speakers of only a language other than
French! The icons are so clear and descriptive that a canoeist or kayaker can easily use
this Guide découverte with a very minimum knowledge of French. As a bonus you'll
learn French terms for navigating a river and canal! The Guide découverte Randonnée
nautique: Lot et Célé is us$25.95 + our usual postage charge of us$4.30 per order
to addresses in the USA.
We suggest, if you're not proficient in French, that you order EDB
Waterway Guide No. 5: Lot; or No. 7: Midi-Camargue; or No. 12: Aquitaine
along with Guide découverte Randonnée nautique: Lot et Célé .
